The Dangers and Effects of Fast Food and Junk Food

Fast food is all the rage now- a-days, providing a quick, cheap food source for everyone’s busy and bustling lives. Teenagers and children, especially, seem to have an abnormally strong attachment to fast food. This attachment is causing unforeseen consequences that are only now beginning to reveal themselves to the public.

The food we eat in general now is so foreign that no living object on planet earth has ever been exposed to the types of ingredients we are now. It is no surprise that there are complications with this new diet. For all of human existence up until about 50 years ago, we ate nearly the same types of things: whole grains, fruits, vegetables and meats in their natural state. However, ever since the fast food and frozen food frenzies, our diets have drastically changed. Never before has any living creature consumed the kinds of preservatives, sodium levels, artificial ingredients or saturated fats that we are today.

Humans before fast food and frozen food did not eat sodium or saturated fats except for the small trace amounts that are found naturally in some foods. The levels of sodium and saturated fats that we eat today are off the charts.

In addition to these high levels of fats and salt, we are now adding manmade chemicals, preservatives, dyes, sweeteners, artificial flavors and simple sugars to everyday foods and drinks. Hardly any food is an exception to this rule. Nearly any cookie, cereal or cheeseburger you consume is FILLED with artificial ingredients, none of which are natural to be consumed by a human body.  Nearly any pre-prepared food is going to have high levels of preservatives and chemicals in them, fast food being one of the worst culprits. We have all seen the experiments of people leaving fast food burgers and fries out uncovered for weeks without them spoiling. This is a prime example of the disgusting amounts of unnatural preservatives that they put in their food so it can stay ‘fresh’ longer. This is not natural, and not healthy.

These unnatural ingredients in our food are not without consequence. Because of the amounts of saturated fats, sodium, preservatives, chemicals, dyes and other artificial ingredients, serious health risks are now beginning to unfold. Diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, asthma, eczema, low immune system and obesity, just to name a few.

Eating these unnatural foods in moderation is not going to cause you to get cancer, but hardly anyone eats them in moderation anymore. People consistently eat fast food daily and weekly, drastically increasing their risks of illness. The only way to solve this problem is for people to make the personal decision to eat naturally as much as they can. There is no way to avoid the preservatives and artificial ingredients all the time, this is simply impossible. The artificial food frenzy has grown too large to ever be stopped. However, if you can personally make the choice to eat naturally, meaning preparing your own foods using fruits, vegetables, grains and meats, then you can strengthen your health, and the health of our future generations.
