The main goal of completing a college degree for anyone is to eventually gain a successful and financially stable career. This is easier for some than others, for, sometimes, in life, a little luck comes into play. However, for
others, college is one of the most important things that they can complete in their life because it is the main factor in being able to obtain a high paying, enjoyable job.
However, just going to college isn’t enough. Getting good grades is obviously helpful, but choosing the right major and pursuing it genuinely is even more important.
The first thing to ask yourself is what you can see yourself doing in 10, 20, 30 years from now. You want to pick a career that is going to make you happy. If you have an extremely lucrative career, but work 60 hours a week and hate your life, then you will not be satisfied internally and you won’t even have the time or energy to enjoy your lucrative wealth. Pick something that you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life if need be.
Another factor to take into consideration is the supply and demand of your desired career. If there are more people interested and qualified for a position than there are positions available, then you are entering a very competitive work force. For example, business degrees are one of the most sought out degrees out there. However, with the business industry constantly growing in complexity, the requirements for a job are not only becoming more rigorous but more and more people out there now have business degrees, making the competition for a business job fierce.
Taking these things into consideration, you want to pick a major that will supply you with a job that not only makes you happy, but provides you with a stable income and a job that is available. Most of the time, this requires you to find your deepest interests and skills and to apply them to a unique strategy that is individual to you. This can give you the niche you need to stand out in the sea of applicants and get you the job you deserve!
